In this article you can find more information about the differences between a Bring your own Meeting (BYOM) and a Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) video conferencing setup.
If the choice has been made for Microsoft Teams Rooms, it is useful to list below the differences between the different Microsoft licenses that can be used in a Microsoft Teams Rooms meeting room:
For Microsoft Teams video conferencing there are 2 types of licences
1/ Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic
For customers who have purchased a Teams certified hardware solution (e.g. from Logitech or Yealink), Microsoft offers a FREE Teams Rooms Basic license (up to max. 25 rooms).
The Teams Rooms Basic license allows you to schedule and participate in meetings in the room (without a laptop) from the touch panel on the table or from an interactive presentation screen, share content from your laptop and start whiteboarding for collaboration, as well as ready-made basic security and management options from the Microsoft Teams admin dashboard.
A Teams Rooms setup exists in 3 forms:
- A Teams Rooms on Windows setup with any connected touch control panel (Logitech Tap or Yealink touch panel)
- A Teams Rooms on Android setup with any connected touch control panel (Logitech Tap or Yealink touch panel)
- A Microsoft Surface Hub
With a Teams Rooms Basic license you can only create 1 Teams Rooms setup per room, this license is ideal for smaller organizations.
If you want to add more than 1 Team certified device to your room (e.g. in addition to the video bar, also a Logitech Tap Scheduler room booking display on the outside of the room), you must switch to a Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license or to a Shared Device license.
2/ Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro
In addition to the standard functionality of the Teams Rooms Basic license, Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro also offers advanced in-room meeting experiences, such as intelligent audio and video, Microsoft Front Row, large galleries and dual-screen support. The Teams Rooms Pro license also offers advanced management features such as remote device management, conditional access policies, and detailed device analytics.
Teams Rooms Pro licenses are intended for medium to large companies or for small organizations with large meeting rooms or advanced audio requirements.
A Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license costs €37,40 per meeting room per month.
With a Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license you can connect both a Teams video conferencing setup and a Teams room booking panel to the same room.
Only need a Teams Room panel?
Do you only need a Teams Room booking panel (room booking display) on the outside of your meeting room but you do not have a video conferencing setup in your meeting room or do you have a BYOM video conferencing setup instead of an MTR setup?
Then there is a cheaper intermediate solution if you only need the Teams Room Booking panels:
Microsoft Shared Devices licenties
The Teams Shared Devices license includes BYOD spaces (Bring Your Own Device), such as focus or huddle spaces. Linking a Teams Shared Devices license to these room accounts enables valuable usage analytics, reports and insights in the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal. These usage reports can help IT teams optimize BYOD spaces across the organization and gain valuable information for planning and budgeting.
In addition, Shared Devices licenses can also be used to link the Teams Room Booking panels with the agenda of this room.
A Shared Device license costs €7,50 per room per month.
